About the Department

The Department aims to achieve international standards of excellence in undergraduate and postgraduate education in the fields of Multimedia and Graphic Arts. It fosters interdisciplinarity in design and promotes collaboration between industry, academia and research organisations.

Creating team

The CUT OUT Hub design and development was an initiative of the 2021 graduate students, and it was fully developed by Fanis Mahmalat and designed by Loucas Gregoriou and Antonis Theodosiou.

Το Τμήμα Πολυμέσων και Γραφ

Το Τμήμα Πολυμέσων και Γραφικών Τεχνών @cyprusuniversitytechnology σας προσκαλεί σε Διεπιστημονικό Εργαστήριο με θέμα «Οι Τέχνες και η Μηχανική ως Διεπιστημονικά Αντικείμενα», το οποίο θα πραγματοποιηθεί την Τετάρτη, 07 Ιουνίου, ώρα 12.00-14.00, στο Media Arts and Design Research Lab, κτήριο Ποταμίτης, 3ος όροφος.
Το εργαστήριο διοργανώνεται στο πλαίσιο σειράς διεπιστημονικών εργαστηρίων δικτύωσης του Γραφείου Πρύτανη με στόχο να γεφυρώσει τα τεχνητά επιστημονικά όρια που επιβάλλει η πανεπιστημιακή δομή των σχολών και των τμημάτων, φέρνοντας κοντά ερευνητές με παρόμοια ενδιαφέροντα που διαφορετικά δεν θα είχαν την ευκαιρία να συναντηθούν.
Το διαδραστικό εργαστήρι Atlas of Weak Signals παρουσιάζει μια έρευνα από Weak Signals που καταγράφουν και αναδεικνύουν μελλοντικά σενάρια και τάσεις, τα οποία αφορούν την ανθρώπινή κοινωνία, την τεχνολογική ανάπτυξη και την οικολογία. Ο στόχος του εργαστηρίου είναι να προσφέρει μια συνεργατική άσκηση που διευκολύνει την αναζήτηση ευκαιριών, απειλών, προκλήσεων και κοινών οραμάτων για καινοτομία, έρευνα και επιχειρηματικές ευκαιρίες του μέλλοντος.
Στο εργαστήριο θα προσφερθεί μικρό γεύμα.

Στις 22 Φεβρουαρίου 2023 ομάδα θρασύδειλων ομοφοβικών επιτέθηκε στην κοινή εκδήλωση της Φοιτητικής Ένωσης του @cyprusuniversitytechnology και της Accept – LGBTI Cyprus.
Η Σχολή Καλών και Εφαρμοσμένων Τεχνών @cut.ffaa, το Πανεπιστήμιο, αλλά και ολόκληρη η κοινωνία βρίσκεται απέναντί τους, και απέναντι σε κάθε υπονομευτή της ελευθερίας της σκέψης, ταυτότητας, κρίσης, έκφρασης.
Οι χώροι του Πανεπιστημίου είναι ιεροί, και θα παραμείνουν κλειστοί για τέτοιες ομάδες.

Οι φοιτητές/φοιτήτριες διοργάνωσαν σήμερα, στο προαύλιο του κτηρίου «Αντρέας Θεμιστοκλέους», εκδηλώσεις καταδίκης του περιστατικού ομοφοβικής βίας που σημειώθηκε την περασμένη εβδομάδα στο Πανεπιστήμιο, στέλνοντας τα δικά τους μηνύματα υπέρ της ισότητας, της διαφορετικότητας και της συμπερίληψης.

Η μικρού μήκους ταινία animation “Cycle” της Χριστίνας Σαχπαζίδου, απόφοιτης του Τμήματος Πολυμέσων και Γραφικών Τεχνών του @cyprusuniversitytechnology έχει επιλεγεί για να συμεμτάσχει στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Athens Animfest (https://athensanimfest.eu/) που θα διεξαχθεί στην Αθήνα από τις 16 μέχρι τις 19 Μαρτίου. Αυτή είναι η έκτη επίσημη επιλογή της ταινίας σε διεθνές διαγωνιστικό φεστιβάλ κινουμένων σχεδίων.

Έχει επίσης επιλέγει για να συμμετάσχει στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Λάρισας (https://iffl.gr/) και στο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινουμένων Σχεδίων Animatiba, που διεξάγεται στην Curitiba της Βραζιλίας (https://www.animatiba.com.br/).

Η ταινία ακολουθεί τον Κίτρινο, ο οποίος ξυπνά ένα βράδυ και αρχίζει την περιπέτεια του προς την αυγή μιας νέας μέρας...

A unique 'music box' inspired instrument that can be controlled through hand gestures and without physical touch to produce a variety of tones and percussive effects.

The work has been realised in the context of 'Machines of Sentient Resonance', a DIWO (do-it-with-others) experiment facilitated by Dr. @marinoskoutsomichalis where AI meets, speculative design, sci-fi, and cyberpunk. @cut.mga students are asked to give flesh to illustrations of non existent machines generated by a state of the art AI text-to-image generation pipeline. AI reponds to 'machine of sentient resonance' and other similar prompts with pictures of haphazard apparatuses that are subsequently made real by the students that are, additionally, required to come up with (real or fictional) functions/uses for/of them.

Dr Marinos Koutsomichalis is a Lecturer in Creative Multimedia at the @cut.ffaa @cyprusuniversitytechnology where he co-directs the Media Arts and Design Research Lab (MADLab).

Our machine randomly selects whether it should light up a spotlight on a detected individual or not. That is, our machine decides if one is 'worth' the spotlight (that is, to be noticed by others) much like Instagram algorithms decide if one's content is worth seeing by others.

Period: 1953-1973 (It is then that MKULTRA machine would be tested on soldiers. Following the end of the experiments and the eventual declassification of the project, the existence of the machine became known some 25 years later on)

Our @cut.mga team tracked what was left of the original MKULTRA and produced a modified version that is now accessible to the general public. Through our machine it becomes possible for Cypriots to experience for the first time the effect the MKULTRA had on soldiers back on 1950s.

An 'unpredictable' box allowing interaction on its 3 sides as well as via opening it and meant to trigger audiences explore their curiosity in a playful fashion. Beware though! Opening the box would bring this world to its very destruction.
